We used JOINTLY to cluster and label cells from white adipose tissue (WAT) using 6 scRNA-seq studies (Tabula Sapiens consortium, Emont et al., Hildreth et al., Vijay et al., Jaitin et al., Clarissa et al.), totaling ~300.000 cells from visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) depots and subsequently created an expandable tissue atlas, termed WATLAS, by integration using scANVI. In the WATLAS, we were able to recover 17 major cell types in WAT, and 43 total subtypes with robust gene signatures.
